Mini Vagabond Lithium Review | Experiments with video

I recently put together a video review of Paul Buff's Mini Vagabond. Ive been shooting a lot of video over the last year, every since I got the mark 2, but this is the first time I have actually put something together with any purpose. I cant take all the credit as my good friend & colleague Scott Claybrook of Claybrook Concepts did the final cut. I hope to be putting out more stuff like this in the future.

MO State Penitentiary

So I was lucky enough to find out about the photo contest that was being put on by Capital Arts that allowed photographers in the area to gain access to the old Missouri State pen. We were allowed access for two days. The first morning I was joined by my two good friends & fellow photographers Tony Irons & Aaron Ottis. The second day I explored on my own. For me, the whole contest was more less just an opportunity to gain access to an area that I will probably never get to shoot in again. And unfortunately I did have two images to enter, but with being right in the thick of the wedding season I couldn't seem to make the deadline. Although, all in all, the whole experience was great fun!

Below are the two images I was going to enter.

Blake | Analog Series :: Fuji 100B-45

Wow! Its been a long time since I have blogged! I think I'm going to have to call my self out & publicly commit to posting at least once a week. I always have ideas for posts & plenty of new work to show so maybe this will give me the motivation I need to keep this thing alive.

-Moving on. So I have posted here before that I'm always shooting film & playing with different camera formats, which of course brings me to the topic of this post: Experimenting with instant films. I wanted to share a new film I have been playing with: Fuji 100B-45, a ISO 100 black & white 4X5 pack film, one pack holding ten images. And I have to say this stuff is absolutely beautiful! Producing rich & contrasty prints straight out of the camera! With the big bonus being that its not finicky with temperature or time like other instant films. Unfortunately you cant pull a good negative from it like the Fuji 100C45, but it does scan well! Now for the bad news, Fuji has apparently discontinued it! I had heard that Fuji's instant film sales were up, but with everything that has happened in Japan the future is any ones guess!

The two images here are of a client of mine/fellow photographer & now good friend, Blake Sellers. Of course these were both shot on Fuji 100B-45.

2010 Seniors | Josh

For the first session of Josh's senior portraits we went down to Jeff City High Schools Adkins Stadium. This is the first time I have done any portraits there so I want to do a quick post & share a couple of my favorite images from the session. It was quite hot & bright when we first arrived, but after the sun started to set behind the clouds things started to cool down & were able to get some great images with the sky in the background.

I hope you enjoy them! And as always any comments are appreciated!

Paul | The Analog Series :: Fuji Instant Films

We have been crazy busy this summer! Between finishing the remodel at the studio & traveling throughout the Midwest for both weddings & commercial work I haven't had much time to squeeze a blog post in. However I still have been shooting plenty of personal work. I have been working with the 4x5 camera & the most amazing instant film made by Fuji. I'm using both the Fuji color FP-100c45 and the black and white FP-100b45. I absolutely love the results! Nothing compares to actually holding a print in your hands! And the added bonus is that not only do you get a positive print, but the backing yields a 4x5" negative!

Below is my good friend & fellow photographer Paul Jones. From the very first time I met Paul I knew that I wanted to create a portrait of him. I decided to use the 4x5 view camera & Fuji FP-100c45 as my capture medium. The original positive images were in colour. After scanning the positive I did a black & white conversion and a minor curves adjustment in PS.

I hope you enjoy! Any thoughts or comments are always appreciated!

Renn the Dog | Jefferson City Photography

So I'm not really known as a dog photographer, but when my buddy JJ approached me about doing a portrait of his dog for the Jefferson City Humane society I could hardly tell him no. The concept for the for the image was to be a bit more illustrative & fun than formal. I think the end result was within the scope of what we were going for.

Please leave comment & let me know your thoughts.

Christina & Paul | Jefferson City Wedding

Christina & Paul were such a laid back couple to work with! I must say that I have never covered an outdoor wedding where it rained so hard! However in my opinion, witnessing two people declare there love for one another in the pouring down rain was nothing short of beautiful. Of course it was also a great photographic opportunity! ;)

BTW you may recognize Christina & Paul from an earlier e-session post we did.
